According to statistics, gender diversity is extremely important for IT companies. Successful startups have twice as many women in senior roles than unsuccessful companies. The cost-effectiveness of companies headed by women is 35% higher than of the companies headed by men. Despite this, even in the USA, the number of female staff working with Data science is only a quarter of all employees. Ukrainian statistics in this regard are even worse.
That is why we decided to hold the ninth educational module on Computer Science. The two-day event took place online at the end of February and united leading specialists on Data science, Artificial intelligence, and Machine learning. The module was also joined by motivational speakers – representatives of NATO, Embassy of Sweden in Kyiv, and others.
Participants of the module had lectures and workshops on Computer Science and worked on the concept of an application that can be useful in resolving social problems. The girls who participated in the module presented a lot of original ideas focusing on resolving the problems that people with various disabilities face daily.
Mariia Kalinichenko from Dnipro won the grand prize of the module. She created a concept of an application that can replace a sports coach for people with physical disabilities and Paralympian. The second place was taken by two girls: Victoria Konaschuk from Kyiv and Anna Brosalina from Boryspil. They worked on the applications for disabled drivers and people with eating disorders.
